Indications That Your Wheels Need To Be Aligned

  • Extreme or Uneven Wear
  • Steering Wheel Vibration Or Loose Feel
  • Vehicle Pulling To One Side
  • Uncentered Steering Wheel

Wheel Angles

Digital alignment equipment is used to measure all alignment angles on today's vehicles. Wheel angles cover both adjustable and non-adjustable angles. (Non-adjustable angles need repair or replacement of the suspension component.) The most common adjustable angles are:

Toe

Toe refers to the wheels' tilted direction toward or away from one another when viewed from the top. Toe is the most significant tire wearing angle. Tires that "toe-in" point toward each another. Tires that "toe-out" point away from each other.

Camber

Camber refers to the wheels' tilt toward or away from one another when observed from the front. Wheels that lean into the vehicle have "negative camber." Wheels that tilt out from the car have "positive camber."

Caster

Caster relates to the steering axis's angle with an imaginary vertical line through the center of the wheel when viewed from the side. "Positive caster" is the terminology used when the vertical line is tilted back toward the rear. If it's tilted ahead, we call it a "negative caster." The proper caster angle sustains your vehicle for better steering.

Thrust Angle

Thurst angle refers to the proportion of all four wheels to each other and their relationship to an imaginary center line that goes from bumper to bumper. The term "thrust line" relates to the direction in which the rear wheels are aimed. Thrust angle is correctable on cars with adjustable rear suspensions. If your vehicle has a non-adjustable suspension, the thrust angle is compensated for by aligning the front and rear wheels.
